When someone searches for "hairdresser Kreuzberg" or "electrician near me", Google shows a map with three businesses at the top. Those three get most of the clicks and calls. Your Google Business Profile is the single biggest factor in whether you appear there.

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing customers see.
The good news: it's free, and most of your competitors leave theirs half-finished.
Get the basics exactly right
- Business name: use your real name. Adding keywords like "Best Plumber Berlin" breaks Google's rules and can get your profile suspended.
- Primary category: choose the most specific one that fits your main service. Add secondary categories for other services.
- Address and service area: if customers visit you, show your address. If you travel to them, set the Berlin districts you serve.
- Opening hours: keep them accurate, including public holidays.
Fill in everything Google offers
Add your services with short descriptions, your website link, a booking link if you have one, and the attributes that apply (for example wheelchair access or languages spoken). A complete profile simply gives Google more reasons to show you.
Photos make a real difference
Upload real photos of your shop front, your team, your work and your premises. Add new ones every month. Profiles with fresh, genuine photos look active and trustworthy – both to customers and to Google.
Post regularly
Google Posts are short updates that appear on your profile: offers, news, before-and-after photos, seasonal tips. One post a week is enough to show you're active.
Reviews: the ranking factor you control
The number, quality and freshness of your reviews strongly affect your visibility. Ask every happy customer, and reply to every review – good or bad. We'll cover how to do this politely in an upcoming article.
Connect your profile to your website
Your profile and your website should support each other. Use the same name, address and phone number on both, and make sure your website has pages for your services and the areas you cover. We wrote a full website checklist for Berlin businesses if you want to check yours.
Google explains the main ranking factors in its own guide on improving your local ranking. Reviews play a big part, so it's worth setting up a simple review routine early – and if you work in a specific area such as Neukölln, mention it on your profile and website.
