Many local business owners start Instagram full of energy, post every day for two weeks – and then stop. The problem is rarely motivation. It's not having a simple plan that fits into a busy week. Here's one you can actually keep.

This plan makes Instagram easy for any local business.
Three posts a week is enough
For most local businesses, three good posts a week beats seven rushed ones. Pick fixed days – for example Monday, Wednesday and Friday – and stick to them.
The weekly plan
- Monday – Behind the scenes: you or your team at work, preparing an order, setting up the shop. Real faces build trust.
- Wednesday – Helpful tip: answer a question customers often ask. A hairdresser might share how to keep colour fresh; a café might explain its coffee.
- Friday – Proof: a finished project, a happy customer (with permission), a before-and-after or a review screenshot.
Use Stories for the everyday
Stories disappear after 24 hours, so they're perfect for quick updates: today's special, a free appointment slot, a short clip from the workshop. Two or three Stories a day keep you visible without much effort.
Make it local
Tag your location, mention your neighbourhood and use a few local hashtags such as your district name. People love seeing familiar streets and places.
Always include a next step
Every post should make it easy to act: "Book via the link in bio", "Send us a DM", "Call us on…". Make sure the link in your bio goes to a page where people can actually contact or book you.
Don't forget your other channels
Instagram works best when your Google profile and website are in good shape too – people often check all three before deciding. Collecting more Google reviews and sharing them on Instagram is a simple way to connect the two.
Remember that the link in your bio should lead somewhere useful – a page that passes our small business website checklist – and that local hashtags work best alongside district-level local SEO. Instagram's own business resources are also full of free ideas.

Make Instagram a habit for your local business
Block 30 minutes on Monday to plan your posts. Take photos during the week. Reply to every comment and message. Look at what worked each Friday. For a local business, Instagram is about steady work, not going viral. Want help? See our social media service.
